Who we are
The CommonGlot Foundation is an open, non-commercial initiative that publishes language technology resources and a directory of languages and scripts at commonglot.github.io. The site is static: it has no server of its own, no user accounts and no forms.
What we collect
Nothing. We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and we do not set cookies. Search terms and filters you use in the directories are processed entirely in your browser; they appear in the page address so you can share a view, but they are not sent to us.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub receives standard request information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and may keep it in server logs for security and operations. We cannot access these logs.
Third-party services your browser contacts
To display pages, your browser loads some files directly from these providers. Each receives your IP address and browser details, and handles them under its own privacy policy. Our pages only send the site's origin (not the full page address) as the referrer.
- Google Fonts — Typefaces for the site and, on script pages, fonts for rare writing systems.
- cdnjs (Cloudflare) — The Leaflet map library, on pages with maps.
- CARTO — Map background tiles.
- OpenStreetMap — Fallback map tiles if CARTO tiles are unavailable.
Data stored on your device
If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key “cg-theme”. It never leaves your device. You can remove it by clearing site data in your browser.
Links to other websites
Pages link to external sites such as GitHub, Hugging Face, Glottolog and Ethnologue. Their privacy practices are their own; please read their policies when you visit them.
Children
The site is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. For data processed by GitHub or the providers above, please contact them directly. Questions about this policy are welcome through GitHub issues.
Changes
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and its date. The full history of this page is public in the site's GitHub repository.
